With the projected Center for Resources and Energy (ZRE), located at the site of the former waste incineration plant at Stellinger Moor, the Stadtreinigung Hamburg plans to combine essential aspects of the energy turnaround with aspects of the resource revolution. Only a few commercial sectors are able to provide a sustainable contribution for both, the area of con-servation of resources and the energy turnaraound, as the waste management can. The projected Center for Resources and Energy shall consist of five plant sections, treating different waste streams and converting them for recycling and energetic re-use.

The plant sections shall include the treatment and fermentation of household waste as well as biological and greenery waste and a related treatment of produced bio gas to receive natural gas quality for grit supply. Furthermore two power plants, operated with bio mass respectively RDF shall provide climatic-friendly heat supply for Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg.
Currently the investment for the Center for Resources and Energy is estimated to be approx. 200 million Euro. Presumably, the completion of all plant sections will be completed in 2023.
