With our Combi-Tool of Calorific Value and Business Case Calculatoryou will be able to calculate the calorific value of a waste mixture, and use the result subsequently for a rough design of a Waste-to-Energy plant.
Within a second step the Business Case Calculator enables you to generate a rough assessment of a business case for a waste-fired incineration plant. With several parameters it is possible to estimate whether a plant will be refunded by the gate fee of the delivered waste or due to high energy rates by using a smaller gate fee.
Based on own present data, supplemented with data from OSCD database we started to establish a data collection, meanwhile containing waste mixtures from several countries and continents.
By using the Quickstart you are able to chose a waste mixture either with a high calorific value and high resp. low water contents or with a low calorific value and high resp. low water content.
Otherwise you can select continent, type of area and settlement as well as city or community which could be comparable to your demands. The waste mixture, generated from the database, could be adapted with own values. For example, the water content has a strong effect on waste mixture's calorific value.
The rough design of the Waste-to-Energy plant is based on waste mixture's calorific value. Distinctions are possible for the thermal use of the plant by "maximum electricity", "mix of electricity and heat" and "maximum heat". As well, specifications of mass flow rate and availability will be necessary.
Based on these information you'll start the Business Case Calculator. With this part of our tool you will be able to generate a rough assessment of a business case for a waste-fired incineration plant. The values of the top table are individually adjustable resp. valuable. In the following tables calculated values and other fixed values are only being listed. All assumptions and dependencies used for calculation are based on our experiences.
By using basis data "waste amount", "lower calorific value" and "availability" the "firing capacity" of the plant will be calculated.
For specification of the energy usage items "power" and "heat generation" please notice:
The factor for a pure condensation without steam extraction (Energy usage: "max. electricity") will be max. 0.33; less for additional steam extraction. For pure use of steam without production of electricity (Energy usage: "max. heat") the factor has to be max. 0.8; less for additional production of electricity.
Results of the calculation with your data and basis values will be presented in a diagram. It shows course of revenues, OPEX (operational expenditure), depreciation, EBIT (earnings before interest and taxes), total interest payments plant und EBT (earnings before taxes).
With the Combi-Tool a first and rough design and estimate of the feasibility of a waste incineration plant plant is possible.
