Waste to Energy in Ruhleben

MHKW Ruhleben

Summary/Description:

Berlin Stadtreinigungsbetriebe BSR, the municipal entity responsible for public sanitation, installed a new combustion line for municipal solid waste (MSW) to replace four of the existing eight combustion lines at the WtE plant Ruhleben.

The new combustion line A at the site Ruhleben was installed while the existing plant was in operation. The integration in the existing plant took place at different locations during the gradual implementation. Thereby the secure disposal of MSW of the German Federal State of Berlin had to be ensured at any time.

The steam produced from the thermal utilization of the MSW is transported via a high-pressure steam pipeline to the nearby Vattenfall power plant. There it is converted into electricity and heat for the district heating network

The commissioned main contractor was Fisia Babcock Environmental GmbH.
